Welcome to Time is Precious Pet Rescue, a 501(c)(3) boots-on-the-ground nonprofit serving rural Southeast Texas, an area where the stray dog crisis is something our communities see every single day.

We show up for dogs who have been overlooked, abandoned, or born into the cycle of homelessness. The ones without access to animal control, shelter space, or the resources that many communities take for granted.

We believe rescue should feel hopeful, steady, and rooted in community. The kind of place where neighbors help neighbors, where dogs get second chances, and where people who care can find a way to make a difference.

The dog pictured here is named Precious, and her story is the reason this rescue exists.

She found herself in a loud, overcrowded municipal shelter, sharing a kennel with three dogs she had never met before. The stress of the environment had her snapping at her kennel mates as she tried to compete for the attention of potential adopters passing by.

Because of that behavior, Precious was moved to the shelter’s quarantine room and listed as “code red.” She was running out of time to find a hero.

She was the first dog I ever watched go on the red list, and I cannot describe the way my heart hurt for her. Precious was a sweet dog who loved attention. Every time I sat with her, she leaned into the affection, but each time I had to leave her kennel, she looked so defeated watching me walk away.

Thankfully, we were able to find her a foster home just in time. Outside of the shelter environment, she showed everyone who she really was. She loved to play, enjoyed the company of other dogs, and was eventually adopted into a loving home.

Today, she’s living the life every dog deserves.

In Texas, where so many dogs find themselves homeless during this stray crisis, time is always of the essence.

Precious may never know the impact she had, but her story became the heart of this rescue.
